Towns and Villages

Town of Haverstraw                            
The Precinct of Haverstraw was created in 1719 when it was separated from Orangetown. Haverstraw then  included the present day towns of Clarkstown, Ramapo and Stony Point. Haverstraw became a separate town in 1788.  Town Hall – One Rosman Road, Garnerville, New York 10923

Village of Haverstraw
The Village of Haverstraw was formerly known as Warren and was subsequently incorporated as the Village of Haverstraw in 1873. The Village was known as the “Brickmaking Capital of the World”. At its height, 148 brands of brick were manufactured in Haverstraw. At one time, over two thirds of the buildings in New York City were constructed of Haverstraw brick. On January 8, 1906 a  landslide occurred due to the increased excavation of clay used in brick making. The Rockland Street business section was destroyed and 20 lives were lost.  Haverstraw Village Hall – 40 New Main Street, Haverstraw, New York

Village of West Haverstraw
Formerly known as Samsondale, The Village of West Haverstraw was Incorporated in 1883 under its present name.  Village of West Haverstraw – 130 Samsondale Ave. West Haverstraw, New York 10993

Garnerville, Hamlet of the Town of Haverstraw
In 1828, John Glass founded the textile industry and bought 45 acres along the Minesceongo Creek to build a calico plant. The plant was later purchased by James Garner and Charles Wells. The Garner name was given to the hamlet surrounding the factory. 

Village of Pomona
The village of Pomona, formed from unincorporated portions of the town of Ramapo and Haverstraw, was incorporated in 1967.  Village Hall – 100 Ladentown Road, Pomona, NY 10970

Town of Stony Point (including Tomkins Cove)
Until 1865, Stony Point was part of the Town of Haverstraw and was know as North Haverstraw.  Stony Point Town Hall – 74 East Main St., Stony Point, NY 10980
